Life is a beach party

August 11th 1997  A Birthday to remember

This is a glimpse into the life of an amazing little girl. The beginning, the middle and the hope filled goals for the future end.

It all started on August 11th 1997 in Lansing Michigan where a beautiful baby girl was born to a turmoil-riddled family in a hospital most in the city raved about. A bouncing seven pound, seven ounce and twenty-one inches long baby girl was born. A baby girl with blue eyes and a head full of dark hair. The brown hair would soon fall out and be replaced by a head full of to die for platinum blonde hair. Wanting mercy from God for the pain of labor and agony of delivery the child’s mother named her Mercedez Marie.

Mercedez would soon embrace the world around her and become one with her environment. Cherishing every elemental smell, sight, sound and taste that graced her with it’s presence. Mercedez soon could relish existence in the world around her. Mercedez soon became intoxicated by her life experiences. Unlike most children Mercedez did not care for cartoons. Her first loves on the little screen were Goldberg a wrestler, Emiril Lagassi from the food network and every fairy ~ fantasy artist popular for the era.

Mercedez at age eight was crafting and writing her way into the imaginations and hearts of neighbors and schoolteachers alike. Soon the world would know her talents and she would be famous, Mercedez mused laying on her back gazing up at the clouds in suburbanized yard of the capital city she had come to know as Lansing, Michigan. This was home and nothing could shake her security or her plans for the future. Nothing that is except for MOM.

One day everything changed …

Mercedez was packed up heading seventeen hundred miles south of her home. The family was moving to NOLA to help with the recovery and rebuilding of cities destroyed by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. New… everything. New people, places and things. Strangers. Mercedez wondered how she was going to get her goals met now?

Mercedez soon met new neighbors, teachers and even made some neighborhood friends the first few months after the BIG move. Soon Mercedez was winning over the hearts and the wallets for charitable causes from everyone she came a crossed including perfect strangers. Going door to door for fundraisers was a piece of cake. Cake alone managed to get enough money raised for a little girl named Angel’s bone marrow transplant.Mercedez was finally fitting in and making her plans work for her new home in Saint Rose Louisiana. Things were finally getting back to normal. Nothing could shake her sense of wellness and balance.Nothing that is except for MOM.

Good ole reliable, stable and dependable MOM. Mom was Mercedez rock. Now once again that rock was ready to roll. Why now after two years of creating everything she lost and left behind were they moving AGAIN? This meant starting all over AGAIN. Making new friends contacts schools and even putting off art school AGAIN for another summer. Mercedez thought to herself …it just is not fair. No one should be in such turmoil at aged ten. May 10th 2008 Mother’s Day.The month of May this is it Mercedez thought it is Mother`s Day.  Today things can get back to normal and Mom will be happy and we can stay living here where everything was finally comfortable, where the newness finally had worn off. Saint Rose was not Lansing by a long shot but it had finally started to feel like HOME.Wow how life changes and rearranges.

Mercedez mom left with Mercedez older sister Searra to take Philip Searra`s boyfriend home and came back visibly upset and distraught. Searra had told Mercedez mom while they were gone that Searra was pregnant …wow Mercedez thought my sister is only seventeen and a junior in high school. Searra is going to be a mom and OMG Mercedez thinks out loud I am going to be an aunt. I am only ten and a half she thought to herself.

Mercedez cries as she runs down the hall to her mom’s room . Where behind a closed door she hears her father say. This changes nothing Shellie Marie we are still moving. Searra can stay behind with Philip and they can figure this out on their own. Mercedez burst into tears, this is not what she had thought her future would be and we are moving …moving to where? What about all the things mom and dad had promised. What about art school, junior culinary school and choir? What happens now?

June 18th 2008 A house divided

Mercedez mom and the in-laws are fighting we are five days into Mercedez new house in Slidell Louisiana. Mercedez is not sure if she likes it here but things have changed and she wants them to stop changing so fast.

Searra is now married and living far away with her husband Philip. No neighbors are close like before and the school is too far to walk to do fundraisers like before. Mom and dad are so stressed out they have forgotten about Mercedez she thinks to herself.

July 4th 2008 Independence Day

Well that just says it all…Independence Day. Searra and her husband have moved into our new house. Mercedez has to share a bedroom with Searra cause Searra has made it clear they are married but sleep separate. Mercedez thinks this is weird but hey she thinks most of what Searra does is weird anyway. All the in-laws have moved out and it is quiet once again. Except for Searra and Philip constantly fighting. We are heading to the Gulf of Mexico for the fireworks and the fire in the sky festival. Mercedez thinks I would like to come here for our birthdays.

July 26th 2008  A beach party for Jordan and Searra

Mercedez is happy that the family is celebrating her brother Jordan’s fifteenth birthday and her sister Searra`s eighteenth birthdayat the beach.

Mercedez thinks to herself …I want a beach party for my birthday too.

August 7th 2008 First day at a NEW SCHOOL

Wow the summer went by fast and today was the first day of school for Searra, Jordan and Mercedez at the new school in Slidell. When asked what she did for the summer Mercedez answered and then added before sitting back down in her seat “ Things change …things change and life is just a beach party. You never know what the weather will be you just plan, go to the beach and when the storms come take shelter or just simply dance in the rain.”

August 8th 2008 A beach party for twelve

Mercedez real birthday is August 11th 2008 TODAY but she wanted top celebrate with her old and new friends at the beach. So Saturday August 8th 2008 we loaded up everyone and went to the beach.

“ Things change …things change and life is just a beach party. You never know what the weather will be you just plan, go to the beach and when the storms come take shelter or just simply dance in the rain.” ~ Mercedez Marie Spitzley aged 11
